The Bluebells’ new topic for November is exploring and experimenting with colours. We have been taking part in many new and exciting activities such as colour mixing and fun science experiments. This topic goes hand in hand with many of the key events throughout November including Bonfire Night, Remembrance Day, Diwali and Children in Need. We have also been taking part in Road Safety Week with lots of physical and real-life activities to support the children’s understanding.
Our topic book for the month will be Elmer the patchwork elephant. This is a book all about colour as well as focusing on similarities and differences between people.
Our topic in Lilies this month is colour. We have been practising colour recognition through matching and categorising activities along with exploring how colours can be changed during our creative activities. We have already been looking at the different colours in our everyday environment and recognising the changes such as rainbows in the sky and the change of the colour of leaves throughout Autumn.
We have also had the opportunity to explore the amazing colours we can see as we celebrate bonfire night and Diwali! Over the next couple of months, we will also be moving on from Autumn to learn about Winter and the changes this season brings.
Daisies (Ages 15 – 24 months)
Throughout November in Daisies our topic has been construction. The children have shown a great interest in building using different materials and so we will be looking to extend this and explore the different structures we can make. We have also been learning about the different materials we can use to create these structures such as blocks, boxes, glue, child-friendly cement, lolly sticks, velcro and much more!
We have also been celebrating a lot of different events this month including Bonfire Night and Diwali where we have talked about the different colours we can use and the marks we can make!
Bags & Clothing
As most of you are aware, children’s bags are to remain at nursery due to COVID-19 restrictions, so please can you make sure all are labelled clearly with your child’s name or initials so that we can keep track of belongings. Please can we also ask that under 1’s have a sleeping bag at nursery too where possible.
Drawstring Bags – We are no longer able to accept drawstring bags at nursery due to health and safety risks; if your child has one of these at nursery we will ask you to take this home and provide an alternative.
Essential Clothing – Please can you make sure your child has appropriate clothing at nursery so that we can still take them outside and on the farm outings they love. Younger children need puddle suits, and all the children need wellies and hats. You are welcome to also bring in gloves, however, these should not be connected with a string.
Community / Fundraising
This quarter we are raising funds for ‘The Need Project’ which is a local charity based in Stortford who provide food packages to support individuals and families who are experiencing food deprivation – something that has increased greatly over the last few months. We hope you can help us support this worthwhile cause.
We have raised £80 far which is a fantastic effort from everyone who has helped so far.
We will continue to donate £10 for every review left on Daynurseries.co.uk during this quarter. Please collect a form from reception if you would like to participate or use the following link – submit a review
Home Observations
We will be writing assessments for all children in the nursery during December and we would like your input with home observations.
It is really important for us to be able to see what your child is doing at home as well as a nursery to be able to assess their development correctly so please upload any of the exciting things you are doing at home!
It is really easy to do through the App, however, if you are unsure, please send us a message or give us a call and we’ll be happy to help.
